Winterizing
Your Scooter
| Ahhh, autumn!
Leaves are turning, the air is cool, crisp and invigorating,
and some of the best riding weather of the year is here
for us to enjoy.
But as the weeks progress, the brisk clear
breezes become a cold biting wind. Those colorful leaves
are now matting on the road, wet and slippery, making the
possibility of unexpected skids a real threat. Numbness
nips at our fingers and toes, and no matter how many layers
we throw on, it’s just
cold and miserable for riding. At this point, you begin to
think about tucking your scooter away for the winter, until
the weather once again allows you to enjoy your rides. It’s
time to winterize.

Looking
for a new helmet?
National Highway
Traffic Safety Adminstration (NHTSA)
Motorcycle Helmets Compliance Testing
It is the responsibility of a
manufacturer of vehicles and/or items of motor
vehicle equipment to certify that each motor vehicle
and/or equipment item is in full compliance with
the minimum performance requirements of all applicable
Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSSs).
The manufacturer must not only be concerned with
the initial certification, but should also monitor
continued compliance of vehicles and/or items of
motor vehicle equipment throughout the production
run. To accomplish this, an effective quality control
program was established to periodically inspect
and test vehicles and/or items of motor vehicle
equipment randomly selected from the assembly line
to ensure that the original performance is carried
through to all other units.
If you are currently in the market for a new helmet,
or just want to see how your current helmet rates,
the following link shows results of tests for the
past 6 years.

The MSF Guide to Group Riding
Irvine, CA - Getting there is half the fun, and making
new friends along the way is what motorcycle touring
is all about. To assist clubs and tour organizers,
or anyone interested in learning more about group
riding, the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) has
produced a new training video, "The MSF Guide
to Group Riding."
The 17-minute, live action production
was originally premiered last June at the 2000 Honda
Hoot in Asheville, North Carolina.
The video covers useful, need-to-know
information on how to ride safely in a group. It
addresses issues such as holding a riders' meeting,
the role of the lead and sweep rider, staggered formation
riding, communication within the group, negotiating
traffic and road hazards, and reviewing common-sense
safety habits.
"This informative and easy-to-follow
video is a much-needed addition to MSF's range of
educational materials," said MSF President,
Tim Buche. "It is sure to be of help to clubs,
tour leaders and all motorcyclists who ride with
a group of friends."

Rider
Safety
If
you are new to scooters or even if you have been riding
for years, we recommend taking the Motorcycle Safety
Foundation (MSF) Rider Course.
You'll be safer and more confident and secure. In
most states, the MSF Rider Course qualifies graduates
for a motorcycle license test waiver and may also
result in lower insurance premiums.
To sign up for a Motorcycle Safety Foundation Rider
course in your area or to request information,
call (800) 446-9227 or visit www.msf-usa.org.

| My Scooter and I |
|
The Sun was shining in a clear
blue sky,
The open road was calling my Scooter and I.
Which way we were riding I did not know,
But the road less traveled seemed the best way to go.
We passed open meadows and forests green,
And horses grazing in between.
They looked up as we went by,
And wondered what we were, my Scooter and I.
We followed the road till we came to two lakes,
And there it was time for a short little break.
These lakes are surrounded by fir, spruce and pine,
And for that short time they were all mine.
For this is God's country you see,
It was created for all, for you and for me.
It's filled with forests, fields, lakes, rivers and streams,
It is the place of a city dwellers dreams
|
And as we headed home under that azure blue
sky,
A turkey buzzard soared on high.
And fluffy white clouds floated lazily by,
As we hummed along my Scooter and I.
The cares of the world are lifted away,
If you can go scootering on a beautiful day.
And enjoy the beauty of this great land,
Which was created by the Master's hand.
And some day when my time here is done,
And I head on toward that setting Sun.
The road to eternity before me will lie,
And we will ride on forever my Scooter and I
